New Forest

Last week I camped overnight in the New Forest in Hampshire, southern England. I’d took my bike as there are miles of good cycle paths throughout the forest.

The tracks are good and well maintained. I think the gradient on the paths was deceiving; it didn’t look much but I would roll at 30 kms/hr without any peddling. Well they were steep enough for me in my current level of un-fitness.

The route I followed took me to the village of Burley where ponies freely wander the streets.

It was my first visit to the forest and it left me with a good impression. It was peaceful and verdant and it was nice to wake in the morning to the sound of birds chirping. Being less than two hours drive from London I’ll almost certainly return before too long.

I love these pictures, especially the Tolkein tree. I expect it to become an Ent at any minute.
