Australia Trip Part 3

Uluru is in my top 3 favourites of the trip. I’ve visited there before, twice, yet I was no less impressed on this occasion.

We didn’t climb the rock, preferring the 3 hour walk around the base. Climbing is still allowed, but strongly discouraged by the indigenous land owners. Frankly, the viewing and scenery at the base of the walk is superior than whilst climbing it.

We performed the walk in a clockwise direction and were partly shaded from the afternoon sun by the rock. Nevertheless it was still hot and there were persistent flies.

Running ahead to setup the camera for the timed photo takes a lot of energy in the midday sun!

Our planned trip to Kakadu was cancelled at the last moment by the operator. So it was back to Brisbane on the next available flight. Probably a good thing ; I was suffering from shingles at the time and needed a few days to rest.

On our return, we had a day at the beach with my parents. Mooloolaba beach, and the north coast beaches in general, are my preference over the Gold Coast. Less developed and a more laid back feel.

This is a nice little park overlooking the beach.

The final part of the trip (to be the final post #4) was highligted by whale watching in Moreton Bay, and a trip to Stanthorpe.
