Australian Trip

Details from a recent trip.

I visited Brisbane for a 3 week trip. Visiting family and friends was one of the main reasons for it. It’s been over 2 years since I’ve been to Brisbane.

Another thing I was keen to do was sort out the garden which had become a real mess. I found pulling out the weeds relaxing. It was nice being in the Brisbane sun at one of the best times of year (late winter/early spring).

This is a small section shown before the cleanup:

and after:

As someone who enjoys gardening, I was pleased to see how well some of the plants had come along over the past few years. I’d like to come back again sometime and plant more trees and shrubs (and replace those that have died).

Another shot of before the cleanup:

One of the tricks was a blow in bark service. In less than 2 hours the 15 cubic metres of mulch was spread to my entire back yard – something that would have taken me many days using a wheelbarrow.

Bark on road

The house was in surprisingly good condition considering it’s been a rental property now for over 2 years. So apart from some driveway damage and the near destruction of my front lawn (due to cars, trucks, and a shipping container!), most things were in good order.

The garden looks great. Have you heard this old poem?

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
    One’s nearer God’s heart in a garden
    Than anywhere else on earth.

Your trees and plants must attract a lot of lovley birds butteflies and insects. Many of them have such melodious calls.
